Projects

You can get involved with experimental archaeology activities in the village or work on the farm project and grow heritage crops on site, become a costumed villager with the friends living history group called Stowacynn or help out with special events. Become a guide in the village or in the museum and even to have the opportunity to work with original artefacts as a part of the digital finds project.

The Friends coin strike project

At DragonFest in 2026, The Friends provided a coin strike activity for visitors.

This provided an interactive activity for people of all ages and the small fee charged was added to the Friends funds.

The Stanley West Library

The Friends of West Stow agreed to fund a set of bookshelves to house those books donated to the site by the late Dr Stanley West, who excavated the site between 1965 to 1972

Stanley West was instrumental in setting up the Anglo-Saxon Village and the Friends of West Stow.

The Digital Finds Project

The Digital Finds Project is designed to provide a digital catalogue of Anglo-Saxon finds from the excavations at West Stow.  The aim is to update that information into a digital form so that it is accessible on line to anyone who might be interested.

Universities, schools, archaeologists and individuals from all over the world have studied West Stow and we hope to make that easier for them and for future generations.
